Thrillin’ in Manila

The Philippines

I am in Manila in the Philippines this month to launch a new program for work. Exciting, right? This is my first trip to the Philippines, and I love it here. In case you don’t know, the Philippines is the second largest archipelago in the world, nestled in the South China Sea.

It’s been an easy visit here so far. Everyone I’ve encountered speaks English. We’re staying in an affluent part of town with ample security, so I feel safe walking around. Also, the food here has been spectacular. Oddly enough, I haven’t eaten any Filipino food yet. I’ve eaten some salads, bulgogi, ramen, and Italian food. A cafe near our hotel has the best lasagna I’ve ever eaten.

As with any fun trip, there have been a few food things that were new to me. I had a caesar salad today that had 4 delicious strips of bacon and a fried egg on top. I wouldn’t have thought to put those on a caesar salad, but it was insanely delicious. If you know anything about me, you know that I have a love-hate relationship with salad. I want to love salad, I really do.

Yesterday, we saw a dessert called “Poop of the Gods.” As brave an eater as I am, I was too full to order it. The dish looked like it might be a chocolate mousse, ice cream or custard. Maybe next time I’ll order it.
